ONE DAY SEMINAR ON RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Objective of the Seminar: Promoting research culture among the students in the field of English Language and Literature by acquainting them with the different facets of research methodology
Beneficiaries: The two hundred delegates who attended the seminar included faculty members involved in research and the MA as well as TYBA students specializing in English.

Preliminary
a) (a) Exhibition: Our Department had organized a Fine Arts Competition which included drawing, Glass, Fabric and Canvass painting, and posters etc. These creative endeavours were displayed in an exhibition which was inaugurated prior to the seminar by Dr. Shirish Chindhade, an academic luminary and a well known Creative Writer.
a) (b) Prize Distribution: This year our Department had organized certain co-curricular and extra- curricular activities for the students of Junior College, Senior College and the Post Graduate Centre such as Intercollegiate Level Essay Writing, Poetry Writing Competition, Short Story Writing Competition, Book Review Competition and College Level Poetry Reading (Original and Known Works), Literature Quiz Competition, Project Writing Competition, Presentation Competition and Fine Arts Competition which included drawing, Glass, Fabric and Canvass painting, and posters. Dr. Shirish Chindhade, the Resource Person of the seminar, awarded the winners of the aforesaid competitions with prizes and certificates of appreciation.
Keynote Address: The seminar commenced with the Recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. In his Inaugural address, Dr. G. M. Nazeruddin, the Principal of the college, complimented the Department of English for its commendable achievements and attempts to groom the students into academically competent individuals. He also appreciated the efforts of the Department for nurturing the talents of the students and thereby being instrumental in developing them into multifaceted personalities.
Dr. Shirish Chindhade, the Resource Person of the Seminar then made a PPT presentation on Research Methodology: Process, Methods and Hypothesis. Differentiating the approach towards research in humanities and research in natural and social sciences, he corrected the common misconception regarding the usage of the terms like ‘problem’, ‘experiment’, ‘hypothesis’ etc. in the study of humanities. He enunciated the entire research process by providing informative handouts and samples of Research Proposals. He further enlisted the ways to avoid plagiarism stating: “There is a world beyond Google. It is what you think and find and declare. Your conclusion is a gift to the world of learning, ideas and new understanding.” His concluding remark “Research is not a certificate. Research is a mindset’ shall indeed serve as a maxim for the budding researchers.
