Two Day National Seminar on ‘Literature into Film: A Revolution in the Making’

Objective for conducting the activity

*      To deliberate upon whether cinematic adaptations and appropriations of literary works do really a justice to literature or reduce our canonical texts to mere adulterations in the pursuit of entertainment and popularity

*      To bring into dialogue reception theory, adaptation studies, film studies, and interpretation of the canons from the socio-economic perspective

*      To deliberate on whether the updating of literature in cinematic form refreshes and broadens or ruins and restricts the reach of a source text

Methodology

Watching Tom Alter recite in a mellow baritone the poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock composed by T. S. Eliot kept the auditorium spell-bound.The auditorium was full of literature and film aficionados from the rich fraternity of Literature & Media who witnessed Tom’s recitation and were transported to lyrical heaven.
