Inaugural Function of the Workshop on NET/SET Preparation on 29/02/2016

Objective of the Workshop:

Preparing students for the English subject in NET/SET and providing them with valuable guidance and techniques of answering questions.

Beneficiaries:

The delegates from various parts of Maharashtra who attended the workshop included faculty members as well as students aspiring to qualify NET/SET in English. It also included students pursuing their PG in our Department of English.

Preliminary:

a)      Exhibition

Our Department had organized a Fine Arts Competition which included drawing, Glass, Fabric and Canvas painting and posters etc. These creative endeavors were displayed in an exhibition which was inaugurated prior to the workshop by Mr. Anil Awad, an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at Kisanveer Mahavidyalaya, Wai and a well-known writer of books on NET/SET Preparation.

b)      Prize Distribution

This year our Department had organized certain co-curricular and extra- curricular activities for the students of Junior College, Senior College and the Post Graduate Centre such as Intercollegiate Level Essay Writing, Poetry Writing Competition, Short Story Writing Competition, Book Review Competition and College Level Poetry Reading (Original and Known Works), Literature Quiz Competition, Project Writing Competition, Presentation Competition and Fine Arts Competition which included drawing, Glass, Fabric and Canvass painting, and posters.

Mr. Anil Awad and Dr. Bhavana Deshpande, the Resource Persons of the workshop, awarded the winners of the aforesaid competitions with prizes and certificates of appreciation.

Inaugural Address:

The workshop commenced with the Recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. In his Inaugural address, Dr. Shakeel Ahmed, the Arts Faculty Vice – Principal of the college complimented the Department of English for its commendable achievements and attempts to groom the students into academically competent individuals. He also appreciated the efforts of the Department for nurturing the talents of the students and thereby being instrumental in developing them into multifaceted personalities.

 Address by Resource Person Dr. Bhavana Deshpande:Dr. Bhavana Deshpande, Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at Poona College and the Resource Person of the Workshop gave a power point presentation on how to prepare for Paper I (General Paper)of NET/SET. This session included topics like mathematical operations, logical reasoning, teaching aptitude, types of communication and kinds of communication channels.

Address by Resource Person Mr. Anil Awad:

Mr. Anil Awad, the second Resource Person, spoke about the methods and strategies to be adopted in order to answer the second and third paper of NET/SET in English. He pointed out a misconception viral among many aspirants that English literature means only British literature which consequently detracts their attention from non-British literature. He showed PPt presentations on often misunderstood and/or neglected topics from literary theories, literary terms and literary history etc.

In the concluding interactive session the Resource persons addressed the queries of the delegates. The workshop ended with the vote of thanks.
